Abstract

This research studies the students’ perception on internet memes as a tool in improving English vocabulary for English foreign language (EFL) learners and the influence of internet memes as a tool in improving English vocabulary for English foreign language learners. Through a descriptive qualitative approach, the study investigates how students perceive the integration of memes into the vocabulary learning process and to what extent internet memes influence their language acquisition. The data were collected through observation, documentation, and interviews administered to 5 selected informants who met the criteria. The findings from this study unveil several noteworthy aspects shaping students' perceptions on internet memes as a tool for enhancing EFL vocabularies. Key dimensions include engagement and interest, contextual learning, informal language and slang, limitation of scope, and collaborative learning and social connection. While internet memes fostered an enjoyable learning environment and increased learners' attention and interest, these advantages were accompanied by potential pitfalls that necessitate careful consideration in educational implementation such as inconsistency and ethical issues.
