Abstract

Strategies for teaching English to young learners are very important. The research questions are: what kinds of strategies are used by English teachers SD Negeri 3 Mudal and SD Negeri 3 Sidomulyo in the academic years 2023/2024, how the strategies are used by English teachers in SD Negeri 3 Mudal and SD Negeri 3 Sidomulyo in the academic years 2023/2024, what challenges do English teachers face when implementing the strategies. This research aims to find strategies for teaching English to young learners. This research was conducted in SDN 3 Mudal and SDN 3 Sidomulyo. This research was qualitative research. The design of this research was descriptive qualitative. This research used observation, interviews, and documentation to collect the data. The research findings were six teaching strategies used by English teachers in SDN 3 Mudal and SDN 3 Sidomulyo. There are Outside Classroom Observations, English Sessions, Interactive Storytelling books, Demonstration, Teaching by Practice and Questioning. There are five ways to implement strategies: making the RPP or leraning module, determine learning objectives, prepare tools, materials and material sources. There were also three challenges teachers faced when implementing the strategies in teaching English. There are limited of time, school facilities are inadequate to carry out certain strategies, and lack of available learning media. Keyword : Strategies, TEYL, Elementary School.
