Abstract
The purpose of this study is to analyze the derivational affixes and meanings in descriptive text assignments of grade X students of SMA N 3 Salatiga in the 2023/2024 academic year. This research used descriptive qualitative research where the researcher found the types of derivational affixes from the words in the descriptive text assignment of the tenth-grade students of SMA N 3 Salatiga. This research used documentary research techniques to collect data. The data collected by the researcher through documentation of descriptive text assignments of the tenth-grade students of SMA N 3 Salatiga in the academic year 2023/2024. In this study, there are 19 words contained affixation, namely 15 suffixes, 3 prefixes, and 1 combination of suffix and prefix. Based on their function there are 2 words in class-preserving derivational affixes, and 4 types of class-changing derivational affixes. Then, based on the meaning, in referentiality, there are 27 physical entities, and 4 words in abstract notions. The conclusion of the research shows the analysis of derivational affixes in the assignments. This research concludes about the important role of affixes in students' text writing as well as the meaning contained in it.
