Abstract

This research was conducted to analyze the types of conversational implicature and Gricean maxims from the utterances of Luke Thompson and Hadar Shemesh in Luke's podcast "Learning How to Learn with Hadar Shemesh". This research uses a descriptive qualitative method and pragmatics approach for analyzing the data which is gained from the whole utterances in the podcast video. The object of this research can be accessed in YouTube Platform. The results of the research found that out of 142 dialogues spoken in the podcast video "Learning How to Learn with Hadar Shemesh", 130 dialogues are generalized implicature and 12 dialogues are particularized implicature. Generalized implicature occurs more than particularized implicature. Otherwise, from the Gricean maxims analysis, there are 12 data that are in line with the maxim of quantity, 3 data that are in line with the maxim of quality, 12 data that are in line with the maxim of relevance, and 3 data that are in line with the maxim of manner. Then, there are also 5 data that violate the maxim of quantity, 5 data that violate the maxim of quality, 2 data that violate the maxim of relevance, and 15 data that violate the maxim of manner.
