Abstract

It is essential for an English learner to expand vocabulary. Beyond being merely a means of understanding the meaning of words, vocabulary is an essential component in addition to grammar that is required to learn English successfully (Arumugam et al., 2020). There are many old and current approaches and activities developed and practiced for vocabulary enhancement, but when it comes to teaching vocabulary to Gen Z students, technology and active participation must be involved. Some of the digital activities that meet this requirement which are recommended in the previous studies make use of social media (Ador, 2023; Meriem, 2023), digital storytelling (Leong et al., 2019; Sembiring & Simanjuntak, 2023), mind map inspired word mapping (Feng et al., 2023; Shi & Tsai's, 2024), memes and GIFs (Hayes & Fatima, 2024; Kayali & Altuntas, 2021), and gamified learning (Panmei & Waluyo, 2022; Thiagarajah et al., 2022). These activities are very implementable in English classes, especially for vocabulary-oriented activities.
