Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the profile of students' narrative text reading comprehension before and after using the story mapping technique, as well as the degree of effectiveness of using the story mapping technique to teach narrative text reading to ninth grade students at SMPN 1 Karanggede during the academic year 2024/2025. This study used a quantitative, true experimental methodology. The study was conducted in the ninth grade at SMPN 1 Karanggede. The sample included 32 students from class group IX E and 30 students from class group IX F. The experimental class group, IX E, is taught using the story mapping technique, whereas the control class group, IX F, is not. Purposive sampling was utilized as the sample method. In addition, the following processes were employed to perform the research: administering a pre-test, executing a treatment plan, and administering a post-test. The study's findings revealed that the mean pretest score, 61.41, was lower than the mean posttest score, 89.53. After using the story mapping technique to teach them the narrative text, the students' average score increased to 28,13 points. The T-table of 2.093 is lower than the T-test score of 22,233. In the interval G > 0.7, the experimental group's N-Gain score is 0.72, indicating a high level, while the control group's N-Gain score is 0.48, indicating a medium level.
