Abstract
Iyalina, Azizatu. 2024. Investigating YouTube Shorts as Media to Teach Adjectives at the Seventh Grade Students at MTs Matholi’ul Huda Bakalan, Pati in the Academic Year 2024/2025. A Graduating Paper. English Education Department. Teacher Training and Education Faculty. Islamic University of Salatiga. Counselor: Noor Malihah, S.Pd., M.Hum., Ph.D. The purpose of this study was to know the students’ profile of adjective mastery in “Describing Someone” before and after treatment using YouTube Shorts and to see the effect of the use of YouTube Shorts to teach adjectives in “Describing Someone” at the seventh-grade students at MTs Matholi’ul Huda Bakalan, Pati in the academic year 2024/2025. This study used pre-experimental research. The data collection technique was used for tests and documentation. Two types of tests were used: pre-test and post-test. The participants of this study were 25 students from the class of VII-A MTs Matholi’ul Huda Bakalan, Pati. The data were analyzed using the Paired Sample T-test and the N-gain test. The findings of this study showed differences in students' adjective mastery in “Describing Someone” before and after treatment utilizing YouTube Shorts. The difference between the pre-test and post-test mean scores showed an improvement in the mean score. The mean score after treatment is 85.8, which is higher than the score before treatment, which was 61.2. According to the statistical analysis, the N-gain score is 0.727, the T-test value is 22.062, and the 2-tailed significant value is 0.000. This indicates that there are significant differences in the student's adjective mastery before and after using YouTube Shorts. Students' adjective mastery in “Describing Someone” was improved after receiving treatment with some videos from YouTube Shorts. The use of YouTube Shorts as a teaching medium can affect students' adjective mastery in “Describing Someone”. It can be concluded that the use of YouTube Shorts as media has proven to be effective in teaching adjectives in “Describing Someone”. Keywords : YouTube Shorts; Media; Adjectives.
