Abstract

Ferdiansyah. 2025. “The Correlation Between Motivation and Speaking Ability of the Seventh Grade Students at SMP N 1 Salatiga for Academic Year 2024/2025”. A graduating paper. English Education Department. Teacher Training and Education Faculty. State Islamic University (UIN) Salatiga. Counselor: Noor Malikhah, S.Pd., M.Hum., Ph.D. The purpose of this study is to investigate about: (1) the relationship between motivation and speaking ability of VII grade students at SMP N 1 Salatiga in the 2024/2025 academic year. (2) the relationship between motivation in defferent level and speaking ability of VII grade students at SMP N 1 Salatiga in the 2024/2025 academic year. The instrument used in the study was a questionnaire to measure the level of motivation, and secondary data owned by the English subject teacher. The number of respondents in the study was 32 respondents. The data processing used was the assistance of SPSS software version 30 and the product moment correlation formula to calculate the correlation between the two variables. The results of this study indicate a significant positive correlation between motivation and speaking ability, which mean the higher the motivaton, the better the speaking ablty. Therefore, the hypothesis 2,4,6,8 is rejected, and the hypothesis 1,3,5,7 is accepted. While the calculation results show that Tcount is greater than Ttable at high motivation levels (8.706> 2.131), and moderate levels (3.670> 2.160), from these calculations indicating a positive relationship between motivation variables and speaking ability. And the results of the study also showed that there were no results indicating low levels of motivation in students of SMP N 1 Kota Salatiga.
