Abstract

The objectives of this research are: (1) To know the profile of students’ writing skills for twelfth-grade in SMAN 1 Tengaran (2) To find out how far the direct method through discussion text used in increasing students’ writing skills of twelfth-grade in SMAN 1 Tengaran in the academic year of 2024/2025. This is quantitative research that uses quasi-experimental design with pre-test and post-test. The study involved two groups, there are: an experimental group and a control group. The population of this research is twelfth-grade of SMAN 1 Tengaran Semarang Regency in the academic years 2024/2025 from class XII.3 and XII.10 with 16 sample of each class. The result of this study determined the t-test calculation for experimental group by comparing the pre-test and post-test results for the pre-test is 53.25 and post-test is 80.25 with 27 increases in the mean test. The experimental group t-test value (to) is 13.26. This uses a significant level of 5% to T-test (tt) with degree of freedom (df) 15 is 2.131. to (13.26) > tt (2.131), it can be said that to is higher than tt. It means that there is a significance increase of students’ writing skills after learn about discussion text with direct method or can be said that direct method successfully helps twelfth-grade of SMAN 1 Tengaran in write a good discussion text.
