Abstract
This research is mainly aimed to describe the students‟ error on using simple past tense in recount text by the first grade students of SMA Negeri 2 Salatiga. This study was also intended to give some contributions regarding the sources of error on the use of simple past tense. The writer had chosen the first grade students of SMA Negeri 2 Salatiga in the academic year of 2014/2015 as the sample. The data were analyzed by using descriptive analysis method. The error types were classified based on four kinds of errors. The result of this study showed that there were four kinds of errors such as errors of addition, error of miss – ordering, error of omission, and error of misformation. From the result above, the writer concluded that the students still made grammatical errors where the most dominant errors students made are error of misformation with a total of 89 or 68, 46 %.
