The term people of tradition and community was also used by the traditionalist to buttress their position vis-à-vis the reform movement launched by the modernist Muslims. For example, Ahmad shiddiq an NU leader, insisted that the people of tradition and community are not averse to reform and that they have always sought to eliminate the deviation and confusion in understanding the Qur’an and prophetic tradition
