Abstract

The objectives of the research are to find out the achievement students’ reading skills in narrative text of the tenth grade of MA Ma’arif Borobudur in the academic year 2018/2019 through THINK ALOUD strategy and to find out the effect of students’ motivation in reading skill. The method of the research used quantitative research. The writer used true experimental design.This study was carried out in two classes, one class as experimental class and the other class as control class.The technique of collecting data were observation and test. The data were gathered through tests. The test consisted of pre-test and post-test. The sample of this study was 36 students. Based on the result of statistical calculation, it’s proved that 1) before using ThinkAloud Strategy the reading skills between two group was equal, 2) after using Think Aloud Strategy the reading skills was difference, 3) TJhe result of t-test from pre-test and t-test from post-test was 0.72 and 2.70, there was effectiveness using think aloud strategy. Based on the finding result of this study, the writer concluded that there was effectiveness of think aloud strategy to teach reading skills of narrative text if the tenth grade students of MA Ma’arif Borobudur in the academic year 2018/2019.
