Abstract

The objectives of this research are to find the sources and the reasons of triggering code switching in English Language Class of SMK N 2 Salatiga. This research generally answers two questions as: (1) What are the Sources of Triggering Code Switching used in English Language Class of SMK N 2 Salatiga? and (2) What are the Reasons of Triggering Code Switching in English Language Class of SMK N 2 Salatiga? The methodology of this research was analytical qualitative approach which the writer analysed the data from conducting research with several theory. The technique of collecting data was observation, field notes and documents. The writer found from the conducting research that there are only four out of five sources of triggering code switching; word level 12 frequencies, lexical concept level 20 frequencies, syntactic procedures level 29 frequencies also discourse and gesture level 14 frequencies. There are no data found on syllable and articulatory level. The reasons of triggering code switching found in word level because the shared similarities in meaning and form, the lexical is caused by shared meaning and the need of the speaker to explain or translate, the syntactic is caused by the similarities of syntactical order in both languages and the discourse and gestures is because the use of specific language feature in a bilingual environment that violate the boundaries of languages.
