Abstract
This study scrutinizes improving students' reading mastery through semantic-mapping strategy. The objectives of the study are to describe the improvement students' reading by using semantic-mapping strategy. The data was taken by _.. using descriptive qualitative and statistical techniques. The research will beconducted at MTs N Boyolali on JI. Kemuning No. 32 Boyolali for secondgrade. The research will be applied to the students of second grade of MTs NBoyolali in the academic year of 2010/2011. The students are from variousareas with different of economics families. Students' motivation to readingEnglish texts is average. Therefore, they are passive in teaching-learningprocess. Based on researcher' experiences that less of students' motivation isthat they feel English is very difficult. Beside that, less of teaching strategythat use by teacher in English class. Teacher feared students would get badvalue in final examination, because English is one of foreign language as acompulsory subject in secondary final examination. The research_ shows thatthe use of semantic-mapping strategy can improve students' reading masteryat MTs N Boyolali. The research also finds that the class situation was moreactive.
