Abstract
This study analyses and proves that implementation of debate technique canimprove the students' speaking skill. The objectives of the study are . to describe theimplementation of debate technique in speaking class of the second class of MTs SAMiftahul Huda, to measure the improvement of students' speaking skill afterimplementation debate technique. The methodology of the study is collaborativeclassroom action research. In this research the writer is the teacher and assists by anobserver, She notes all of the process in learning activities. T» find out theimprovement of students' speaking ability she use test, namely pre test and post testShe use four cycles, in each cycle comprise of one meeting during 80 minutes. Eachmeeting comprise planning, implementation of the action, and reflection. Thestudyshows that the students involve activity in teaching learning process, they are moreencourage and confident to speak in English than before. Based on field note in eachmeeting, it can be found that debate technique has benefit to improve student'sspeaking competence in class. The result of this action research is the majority olmean scores of pre test and post test is 36,6 t0 45,2 in cycle I. And the mean scores ofpost test is 50,4 in cycle 2. The mean scores of post test is 56,6 in cycle, the meanscores of pre test in cycle 4 is 73, and the mean scores of post test in cycle 4 is 8I
