Abstract
Lum’atuddina, Syifa. 2020. “ANXIETY IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNING AMONG THAI STUDENTS AT THE THIRD SEMESTER OF ENGLISH EDUCATION DEPARTMENT OF IAIN SALATIGA IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR OF 2019/2020”. A Graduating Paper. English Education Department. Teacher Training and Education Faculty. State Institute for Islamic Studies (IAIN) Salatiga. Counselor: Miftachudin, M.A. This research tries to answer two issues. The first one is the factors causing anxiety of Thai students in English language learning and the next one is the strategies of Thai students in coping their anxiety in English language learning. These research belongs to qualitative study by which the researcher tries to understand the phenomena and the details of an event. The subject of the data are three Thai students at the third semester who learn English language in IAIN Salatiga. However, there are only two of them becomes the participant of this research. The data subject is derived from class observation and semi structured interview. From the data, the researcher find that there are three factors causing anxiety of Thai students in English language learning namely communication apprehension, test anxiety and fear of negative evaluation. The communication apprehension includes language limitations and the difficulty to response. Meanwhile, the factors of test anxiety covers the case of lack of confidence and fear of making mistakes. Eventually, the factors of negative evaluation is concern with lack of pronounciation. In this research, the researcher also find that there are two strategies of Thai students in coping the anxiety in reading class. The first strategy is preparation such as studying hard, using dictionaries, learning through online media and taking proper position in the class. The second strategy is peer seeking by asking for help during teaching and learning process.
