Abstract
ABSTRACT Pertiwi,Yeni Ratna, 2018. Using Short Stories to Enhance Reading Comprehension on The Narrative Text for The Ninth Grade Students of SMPN 06 Salatiga in the Academic Year of 2018/2019. A graduating Paper.Teacher Training and Education Faculty.English Education Department.State Institute for Islamic Studies Salatiga. Counselor: Dr. Setia Rini, M.Pd. The objectives of the study are : (1) To find out the enhancement of reading comprehension using short stories on the narrative text. (2) To find out the significant influence of using short stories in enhancement reading comprehension on the narrative text for the ninth grade of SMPN 06 Salatiga in the academic year of 2018/2019. The methodology of this research was Classroom Action Research (CAR). The research consisted of two cycles and each cycle consisted of four steps, they were: planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The subject of this research is IXG class, which consists of 31 students. The technique of collecting data was the observation, test and documentation. The result of this research shows that (1) There was an enhancement of reading comprehension using short stories on the narrative text. It is shown the result of the cycle I, the presentation of post – test is higher than the presentation of pre – test. The presentation of students who can reach the passing grade of post – test is 45,2% and pre – test are 0%. In the cycle II, the presentation of post – test is higher than the presentation of pre – test. The presentation of post – test is 80.6% and pre – test are 32.2%. (2) There was a significance influence of using short stories in enhancement reading comprehension on the narrative text from the cycle I up to the cycle II. It is shown the result of T-test in cycle I is 13.919 and cycle II is 12.586. Moreover, the T - test of the cycle I and cycle II is bigger than T-table with N-1 (1.697). From the result, the researcher concluded that using short stories can enhance reading comprehension on the narrative text for the ninth grade students of SMPN 06 Salatiga.
