Abstract

Ma’ruf, Khasin. 2020. The Use of Make A Match to Improve Students’ Vocabulary Mastery for the Seveth Grade Students of SMP Dharma Lestari Salatiga in the Academic Year 2019/2020. A Graduating Paper. Teacher Training and Education Faculty. English Education Department. State Institute for Islamic Studies Salatiga. Counselor: Hanung Triyoko, S. S., M.Hum., M.Ed. The research is about the use of make a match to improve students’ vocabulary mastery of the seventh grade students of SMP Dharma Lestari Salatiga in the academic year of 2019/2020. The objectives of the research are to know the implementation of make a match to improve vocabulary mastery and the significant improvement of students’ vocabulary mastery by using make a match. The method of the research was Classroom Action Research (CAR). There were two cycles; each cycle consisted of four steps, they were planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The result of the research shows that the implementation of of make a match to improve vocabulary mastery for the seventh grade student of SMP Dharma Lestari Salatiga in the academic year of 2019/2020 was successful. It can be seen that students attention, activeness, enthusiasm, and participation. The students who passed the passing grade improved gradually from cycle I and cycle II. The improvement was showed in each cycle which presented pre-test and post-test. The result of the T-test of the cycle II was 3.36 which was higher than the T-table: 2.07 with N-1. The passing grade of English lesson was 70 and the success indicator was 85%. The outcome of the post-test of the cycle II was 91.30% of the total number of the students. The success indicator was achieved, so the researcher stopped the research. Thus, the implementation of make a match proved that it could significantly improve the students’ vocabulary mastery.
