Abstract

Counselor: Dr. Mashlihatul Umami, M.A., Keywords: reading comprehension, Narrative Text, POSSE strategy The objective of the research are: (1) To find out how is the implementation of POSSE strategy to improve students’ reading comprehension of the ninth grade students of MTs PSA Nurul Amal in the academic year 2019/2020. (2) To find out how far is the improvement of the students’ reading comprehension by using POSSE strategy of the ninth grade students of MTs PSA Nurul Amal in the academic year 2019/2020. The number of subject of the research are 31 students of IX C of MTs PSA Nurul Amal. The method of this research was Classroom Action Research (CAR). The research consisted of two cycles and each cycle consisted of four steps, they were; planing, acting, observing, and reflecting. Data collected were qualitative but also supported by quantitative data. The qualitative data were gained through observation and documentation. The data were in the form field notes, observation checklist and photographs. Meanwhile, the quantitative data was collected from the test. The result showed that the implementation of POSSE Strategy to improve students’ reading comprehension runs successfully. The improvement of cycle I was 6% and 23% in the cycle II. It means that the improvement from cycle I to cycle II was 17%. Moreover, the T-table with (N-1) is 2,042 and the T-test for cycle I was 6,247 and 10,278 in the T-test for cycle II. The value of the T-test is higher than the value of the T-table, so the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. This indicates that POSSE strategy was successful to improve students’ reading comprehension.
